LOCAL UTILITY GUIDE / NAPERVILLE HOMEOWNER GUIDE

Your home. The utility. The boundary.

Know who needs to be involved before a project reaches the meter or changes your electrical demand.

Naperville’s municipal context

Naperville operates its own electric distribution system, with service standards that differ from ComEd’s. Check your bill to identify the provider for the property. Nearby-city advice may not apply. City electrical contractor registration ↗

This website is independent of the City and the utility. We do not manage accounts, outages, meters or service connections.

Report an outage to the utility

Naperville Electric Utility lists (630) 420-6060 for electrical outages. For fire, arcing, downed lines or immediate danger, get to safety and call 911. City official contact directory ↗

Record the address and the extent of the outage from a safe location. Do not touch meters, service conductors or damaged equipment.

Bring the utility in early

A service-capacity change, EV charger or standby generator may need coordination beyond the electrician’s installation. Have the contractor identify utility review, disconnects, reconnections and any outside work before committing to dates.

Ask who is responsible for each part. A visible location on your property does not necessarily establish ownership or maintenance responsibility. The utility and contractor should define that boundary for the project.

New accounts and billing

The City provides an online process to start or stop electric and water service. Account and billing questions go to (630) 420-6059. City utility accounts & billing ↗

For a planned move or construction project, use the City’s process directly. Do not submit account details to this website.

Programs are project-specific

Use the EV charging guide for the published incentive conditions and funding uncertainty. A published incentive description is not a reservation of funds.

Do not assume incentives offered by a neighboring utility apply. Confirm program eligibility against your own meter, equipment and application date. Local information last verified October 4, 2026.
