Start with a clear scope
Use the relevant project guide to describe what you need. A diagnostic repair, EV installation and generator project call for different experience. Ask each business whether it handles your type of residential work at your actual address.
You can discover candidates through personal recommendations or business search results. Discovery is not verification. This site does not publish a contractor directory, rankings or paid recommendations at launch.
Verify credentials and coverage
Ask the City to confirm current Naperville registration and the accepted electrical credential for the contractor. The official registration page explains the local process. City electrical contractor registration ↗
Ask the contractor for evidence of relevant insurance and verify current coverage with the issuing provider where appropriate. Record the legal business name used on the proposal. A badge or logo on a website is not a substitute for checking.
Ask these questions before authorizing work
- Who diagnoses the issue and who will perform the installation?
- Who obtains the permit and arranges final inspection?
- Which exact models and ratings are included?
- Who handles utility work, drywall repairs and cleanup?
- What remains an allowance or exclusion?
- What is the expected schedule and power interruption?
- What is the warranty, payment schedule and change-order process?
- Which records will I receive at completion?
Compare evidence, not adjectives
Request a written scope and explanations for major recommendations. A claim that every home needs 200-amp service, a refusal to discuss permits or pressure to approve undefined extras should prompt more questions.
Ask references about comparable work and communication, but do not treat a review score as proof of current registration or technical competence. Read the full contract before committing.
Make the quotes comparable
Send the same project description to each candidate. Resolve missing items in writing. Use the three-quote worksheet and keep the contractor’s original proposal.
There are no verified directory entries or referral partners on this site yet. Future listings would require primary-source verification, review dates and clear sponsorship labels; payment would not determine factual safety guidance.
